Photographers: Nikon D3s vs D800 vs D600 vs D5100 high ISO comparison
This is a fairly geeky post so if you want to read on be warned 🙂 Here I’m comparing my Nikon cameras and their high ISO settings.
We start off with all 4 Nikon dSLRs I use. Nikon D3s, Nikon D800, Nikon D600, Nikon D5100. starting from ISO200 and up to the maximum ISO (only the d3s goes to ISO 102,400 – this is crazy iso!) The megapixel count is. 12mpx, 36mpx, 24mpx, 16mpx. 3FX cameras and 1 DX camera. It’s interesting to see how they all react. Note some of the colour cast is because of the fluorescent lighting in the studio. so please discount that when having a look.
Interestingly the D3S and D600 had similar sensitivity with base exposure being 1/8th @ ISO200. The D800 and 5200 were both slightly more sensive 1/3rd a stop as they required 1/10th @ ISO200.
Take a look below and let me know in the comments what you think.
I’m also going to make available the unsharpened JPGS from these tests at fullsize – so leave your contact details in the comments and I’ll add you to the share 🙂
Enjoy camera geeks.
Hi there,
I would like to see the fullsize images from this test. I currently have a D5100 that is very noisy at even ISO400 so would like to compare these images to ones from my camera.
