Aerial Dorset Photographer and Video – ACU ‘Speedway Star’ British Masters Grasstrack Championship
Today I was at the ACU ‘Speedway Star’ British Masters Grasstrack Championship near Wimborne which was hosted by the WMCC. I was there for some fun and to meet a mate whose wedding I’d photographed a few years ago. I’d taken along my aerial photography and video platform and was given permission to fly to get some photos and video from the air. So after meeting up with my friend I took some photos form the ground that I could later place into the the montage video I planned to make. I then did all my pre-flight checks and did a quick test flight ahead of the races after that it was a matter of watching the races unfold. I have to say the event was very well organised, some great refreshments available onsite and everyone was super friendly. I’ll certainly be back next year!
Once I’d taken the stills and video I edited it together to make a mixture of stills and video to make a little promo trailer of the event. Here’s a finished montage showing how you can mix stills and video to good effect.
I had some great fun making this video and I’m looking for lots more people who would like something similar undertaken for their own event. If you know someone looking for something similar then please do get in touch.
Here’s the montage on youtube:

I am a dorset based photographer with a studio in blandford – available for private and commercial commissions worldwide.
You can see some of my mates work on his website RGPics.
Equipment used:
A small light quadcopter was used with gopro camera attached, this means that no expensive helicopter was needed. I’ve seen these UAV’s used at big sporting events sponsored by Red Bull and the like who obviously use gopro’s a lot. This allows you to get into positions you’d not normally be able to access with a minimum of fuss.
Any pictures or videos of Grass Track solo at British Masters 2013???
Alas not as I wasn’t ready to safely take off so decided to stay on the ground for the final.
