Durdle Door by night and Star Tracking

Astrophotography in Dorset and tracking stars

You’ve no doubt seen some of my durdle door astrophotography night shots before and maybe even come along on one of my astrophotography workshops. You’ve probably also seen I’ve been lucky enough to have a sigma 20mm f/1.4 Art lens to play with these past few weeks 🙂 Well finally we had a clear moonless night (well clear-ish – but i’ll take that this time of year). So I ventured down to durdle door again at 11pm when it was nice and dark and quiet. I’d also recently taken delivery of an astro tracking mount! So I’ve been waiting for the stars to align to use it 🙂 It’s powered by batteries or usb power pack so brilliant.

So I set it up and took a series of photos at much longer exposures than I’d be able to take normally without getting blurring in the stars. The Sigma 20mm is brilliant for this too! Brilliantly sharp and wide too. Here’s a few examples of what I came away with.

Such a great lens that i’m loving using for lots of different situations! It’s super sharp wide open with only a little bit of vignetting, which goes away when you stop down a little bit. If you’re after a fast wide lens this is for you!
